Retro C Will Not Start or Enable After Power-Up
Use this guide when the Retro C touchscreen is operating but the saw will not enable, enter a ready state, or respond to normal movement commands after startup. This is a first-check article: identify which system is preventing operation, then continue with the linked diagnostic article.

Before You Begin
Keep personnel clear of the machine and remove lumber or scrap only through the facility-approved safe procedure. Record the exact message on the screen before clearing faults or cycling power. Do not bypass an emergency-stop device, safety input, drive fault, or disconnected control device to make the saw run.

Identify What Is Preventing Startup
1. Read the status and Check screens
Record:
- The exact status or warning text.
- Whether the Emergency Stop indication is active.
- Whether the Countdown Timer is running.
- Which VC1s, drives, encoders, or network devices show Disconnected.
- Whether the problem affects one movement, one end of the saw, or the entire machine.
These details determine which branch to follow. Do not repeatedly press Clear Fault without recording what returns.
2. If Emergency Stop is active
Confirm that every emergency-stop pushbutton, cable pull, and safety-key switch is physically reset. Also confirm that the required air pressure and safety inputs are present. If the indication remains active, stop and use Emergency Stop System — Overview & Diagnostic Guide.
Panel testing of the 24 VDC safety loop must be performed by a qualified electrical technician under the facility lockout/tagout procedure.
3. If all VC1s and VFDs are disconnected
When every control device disappears at the same time, the cause is normally upstream of the individual devices. Check the on-screen pattern before replacing any VC1 or VFD.

4. If one drive is disconnected
A single disconnected VFD points to that drive’s power, communication wiring, address, or configuration rather than a machine-wide startup problem. Use Drive (VFD) Disconnected Warning: Diagnosis and Recovery.
5. If one VC1 or encoder is disconnected
Check the device named on the screen. A VC1 that does not complete its normal startup-light sequence may have lost control power, Ethernet communication, or its encoder connection.

Do not move cables between devices while energized. Label and photograph connections before a qualified technician disconnects anything.
6. If every device is connected but the saw still will not move
Determine whether the problem affects every commanded movement or only one axis. Inspect the work area for lumber, scrap, a guard, or a mechanical obstruction. Lock out the machine before reaching into the guarded area or inspecting chains, slides, couplings, brakes, or shafts.

What Correct Looks Like
- The Emergency Stop indication is clear.
- The Countdown Timer warning is gone.
- Required VC1s, VFDs, encoders, and network devices show connected.
- VC1 indicators complete the normal startup sequence.
- The machine enters its ready state without a recurring warning.
- Each affected movement responds in the expected direction during a controlled test.
When to Contact Enventek
