Replace the Retro C Touchscreen USB Drive

The Retro C operating software starts from a small USB drive installed in the touchscreen computer. Use this procedure when Enventek Support provides a replacement software drive.

Important: Use only the replacement USB drive supplied or approved for this specific Retro C. The previous drive can prevent the computer from booting if it is reinserted into any touchscreen-computer USB port.

Locate and shut down the computer

Locate the computer inside the Retro C touchscreen enclosure.

If the software is responsive, use the normal shutdown process first. If Enventek Support directs a manual shutdown, press and hold the computer’s upper-left power button until the computer turns off.

Replace the USB drive

  1. Confirm that the computer and display are fully off.
  2. Locate the existing miniature USB drive in the upper-right USB port. It is small and easy to overlook.
  3. Remove the old drive carefully. Label it and keep it separate from the touchscreen computer.
  4. Insert the new USB drive into the same port and confirm that it is fully seated.

Start and verify

  1. Power the touchscreen computer on.
  2. Allow the complete startup sequence to finish; do not remove the drive during boot.
  3. Confirm that the Retro C software opens without a boot-device or file-system error.
  4. Confirm that the expected machine configuration loads and VC1 communication begins normally.
  5. Store the old drive away from the computer and contact Enventek Support if the system does not boot.

Do not test the old drive in a different USB port. Record any startup message and photograph the screen before cycling power again.
