Linear PickLine Sensor Array: Cleaning, Teaching, and Verification

The Linear PickLine sensor array contains six or seven distance sensors, depending on the model. Together they measure lumber length and height as each board passes the array.

How the sensors work

Each sensor measures reflected light from the surface opposite it. The taught reference distance tells the control what an empty conveyor looks like. A board changes that distance and is detected by the software.

  • Dust, resin, or a board fragment on the sensor face can create a false detection.
  • Debris on the opposite surface changes the taught reference.
  • A misaligned sensor may see the frame or miss its intended target.
  • One incorrect sensor can distort the measured board profile.

Before teaching

  1. Stop lumber flow and empty the complete sensor path.
  2. Clean the sensor lens with a suitable nonabrasive material.
  3. Clean the reflective surface directly opposite the sensor.
  4. Confirm that the bracket points the sensor squarely at its intended surface.
  5. Use the diagnostic screen to identify which sensor is not changing correctly.

Teach the reference distance

Press the Teach button on the affected sensor only after the path and opposite surface are clean and empty. Teaching stores the current distance as the empty reference.

Do not teach a sensor while a board, hand, tool, dust pile, or other object is in its path. That object would become the new empty reference and cause incorrect detection.

Verify the array

  1. Confirm that every sensor shows a normal clear-state indicator with the conveyor empty.
  2. Pass one straight board through at a controlled speed.
  3. Watch the PickLine diagnostic screen and confirm that each covered sensor changes as the board passes.
  4. Confirm that the board appears in the monitoring view with a reasonable length and height profile.
  5. Test several boards and verify repeatable detection before returning to automatic operation.

If a sensor will not teach, remains active with an empty path, or changes intermittently, inspect its wiring and alignment and contact Enventek Support before replacing it.
